Day 108: Faro Blanco Resort and Marina (Marathon, FL) 2/15/22

Today was the windiest day yet! We almost lost out AGLCA burgee. A burgee is any flag at the bow (front) of the boat. Jen noticed it and it had come off on one side. So she quickly climbed out there to save it.

Kelly emptied the fridge into our backpack coolers we take with us to the grocery store. There was a huge black of ice the that built up in the upper right corner. It happens every now and then and we have to defrost it.

It rained for a little while this morning. Our little boys took care of their bathroom business rather quick and did not like the rain. Bonnie however could care less about the rain and wanted to play outside.

Mike worked. After work he spent time reading the original Grand Banks book with the layout for the electrical wiring, plumbing, and lots of other useful information. He is having trouble getting out blowers to work down in the engine room.

It was a slow day… we are tired of all this wind and rain!

Day 107: Faro Blanco Resort and Marina (Marathon, FL) 2/14/22

Happy Valentines Day!

We love all of our readers and followers, thank you for all your support!

Michael, Ashlyn, and to our Grandmas…. We love you tons and miss y’all. xoxo

Today the Wishes gang spent the day inside as it was rainy and windy most of the day. Mike worked, and the dog were getting a little stir crazy after yesterday and today being stuck inside so much… Hopefully tomorrow the weather will clear up so they can get out and play.

Mike made steak and potatoes for dinner… yummy as always.

Day 106: Faro Blanco Resort and Marina (Marathon Key, FL) 2/13/22

Super Bowl Sunday! Go Rams and go Matthew Stafford 🙂

It rained all day and was super icky and windy. The boat rocked quite a bit, but no one got sea sick. I think at this point were all pretty used to it, and barely notice it anymore.

We ordered pizza from Driftwood Pizza. It was just okay. We got Taco pizza, and Jen added taco seasoning and salsa and it made it a lot better. We ordered chicken wings too, and they were pretty good… despite the look on Jen’s face. She hates chicken wings, they remind her too much of a bird. The bones gross her out, and every now and then she will try one and always regrets it.

Bonnie had a sleepover with Jen and Harley.

Day 105: Faro Blanco Resort and Marina (Marathon Key, FL) 2/12/22

Happy Saturday!!

The Wishes crew started the day with riding bikes to The Stuffed Pig for breakfast. As you can see by the pictures we all loved it and ate good 🙂

After breakfast we rode our bikes back to the boat. Mike got the fishing pole’s ready while the girls took the dogs out to go potty. Jen got a Lyft to come pick us up at the marina. Our Lyft driver Amy was so so sweet, she gave Jen her number in case we needed a ride during our time here in Marathon.

We arrived at The. Marathon Lady with enough time to check in and claim some good spots on the boat. The boat was clean and they provided weights and hooks. Mike got the lines ready, and we waited for the boat to head out. We pulled out of the dock at 1:30, and they went over a few safety things on our way out. After about a 45 minute calm ride off shore we made it to our first fishing spot. We went to about 5 different spots while out there. The crew was great, they were super helpful and funny. It was so much fun! In total we caught about 20 fish total and 15 keepers. We made it back to the dock around 5:30 and the crew sorted out everyones fish and got to cleaning. They cleaned the fish right there for you and bagged it up. When cutting the fish the pelicans surrounded the crew. They get fed the scrapes. A few of the pelicans like to hangout on the roof of the building and the crew with throw them scraps. It’s our new favorite pelican story…. second to the boy getting attacked in Fort Myers Beach lol

We called Amy and she came and picked us up and brought us back to Faro Blanco. She’s the best!

Mike cooked about half of the fish from today for dinner. He pan seared it with lemon and butter and cooked rice and some butternut squash to go with. Jen gets to the cook the other half another day… Who will cook it best??? We will keep you posted 🙂

Day 104: Faro Blanco Resort and Marina (Marathon Key, FL) 2/11/22

Happy Friday!

Jen started the day by ordering Girl Scout Cookies! One of the ladies here at Faro Blanco posted the link on the Facebook group. Everyone around here is so helpful… Jen was very worried about not getting Girl Scout Cookies this year. Best part of the girl Jen ordered from was her mom delivered the cookies an hour after the order was placed.

Kelly made breakfast. Egg, ham, and cheese McMuffins. They were so yummy! The dogs waited very patiently by the stove hoping for scraps.

Mike spent the day working.

Jen was still not feeling good, so she spent most of the day in bed with the dogs. Bonnie was very protective, and stood guard the whole time. Harley as always cuddled Jen and took care of her.

Teddy got to go to docktails tonight. He loved all the attention, but towards the end got really tired and fell asleep in Jen’s arms.

Mike cooked cheeseburgers for dinner.

Bonnie is in charge of letting us know when the bowls are empty. She will take her paw and scratch at them and stare at you intensely. She won’t stop until her bowl is full again… she might not even be hungry or thirsty, she just like to have them full.

Day 103: Faro Blanco Resort and Marina (Marathon Key, FL) 2/10/22

Mike worked.

Jen got food poising or a stomach bug and wasn’t feeling good. She stayed back at the boat and didn’t go to dinner.

Mike and Kelly went to dinner with new friends Anne and Jay at Porkey’s. Coconut Mojito is a must! Food was very good, and Key Lime Pie was good… still not as good as Dewy Destin or Butterfly Cafe though.

Day 102: Faro Blanco Resort and Marina (Marathon Key, FL) 2/9/22

Today, Kelly and Jen went with new friend Anne to ride bikes around town and do some shopping. It was nice to have some girl time and explore together. Kelly and Anne found some really cute clothes at Anthony’s, it’s a south Florida family owned retail shop. Jen got to hold and play with some cockatiels at a pet store, which made her miss her bird Cuddles who we lost a few years ago. Cuddle was such a loving sweet bird, and her and Jen had a special bond. There were a few resale shops the girls went to as well, Jen got top for $4 and Kelly found a Columbia jacket for $10… great finds. One of the stores we went to had some creepy dolls(see pics below).

After shopping the girls went back to the boat and got ready for docktails at 5:00. It was kinda windy so turn out was low. We were talking with new friends Kyle and Ashley on a beautiful catamaran, ‘Pandora’. They offered us a tour of their boat, and we spent the night chatting with them. They are so cute, and we loved getting to see their boat… it was so spacious!

We headed back to Wishes and heated up leftover chicken Jen made and watched Game of Thrones. We let the dogs out for night night potty, and when Teddy came he without us knowing climbed up on the table and finished off what was in the bowl. The chicken was cooked with garlic and onions, and had extra onions on top….which any fellow dog owners know is a big no for our furry friends.

Jen quickly did some research and found out giving your dog 3% hydrogen peroxide will cause them to throw up. Luckily we had some in the cabinet, and gave him some. Within about 2 minutes he threw it all up. We all sat on the floor and watched Big Bang theory with Teddy. He loved the attention, we gave him some ice cubed to chew and lick on. After knowing he was going to be okay, we all headed to bed.

Day 101: Faro Blanco Resort and Marina (Marathon Key, FL) 2/8/22

Today, Jen and Kelly ventured out and rode our bikes to Publix. It was 2.2 miles each way. We needed to get ingredients for Taco Tuesday Night at docktails. Jen made amazing chicken street tacos. They were a huge hit. Everyone raved about the them. We were so glad Jen made enough to for us have leftovers.

We also met a new friends, Anne and Jay, from “Alacrity”. One of the best parts of the trip, is meeting so many nice people. It’s been great to collect new long time friends.

Day 100: Faro Blanco Resort and Marina (Marathon Key, FL) 2/7/22

Happy 100 Days out on the water!!

Mike spent the day working.

Kelly did some trip planning, including finding us a boat to go out reef fishing. We will be going out on the Marathon Lady.

Jen started the day by going for a run. She ran 3.5 miles, it was a good run. Not very scenic though and the only place to run is on the main road, but it was still good. After her run Jen went to the pool and worked on updating the website. It was very relaxing, and she saw an iguana there. He was laying in the shade and came out and laid out in the sun and napped next to Jen for about an hour.

After Mike finished working the Wishes crew got ready and headed over to 5 o’clock docktails. Everyone here at Faro Blanco is so friendly and we have loved getting together with everyone.

On our way to dinner we stopped to play mini golf at the field by the hotel. They clubs, balls, and 3 flags set up. Of course Mike was the winner… when we go play at a mini golf course we usually make him play left handed because he’s so good.

We ate at the Butterfly Cafe at Tranquility Bay Resort. The service was great and the food was really really good. We have found a new #2 key lime pie as well. Dewy Destin’s is still in first place, but the Fisherman’s Wife in Carrabelle has been moved down to #3.

Day 99: Little Shark River Anchorage (Everglades, FL) to Faro Blanco Resort and Marina (Marathon Key, FL) 2/6/22

Mike was awake first, he started the generator to get the batteries charged up. He made coffee as well. Once the girls were awake and ready we started up the engines and Jen pulled up the anchor. Little Shark is a great anchorage, deep with a sandy bottom. Super quiet and nicely protected.

It was another perfect day out on the water. Jen and autopilot did most of the driving today. Mike did some as well. Lots of crab pots to dodge, which requires focus but isn’t too hard to spot them on a calm day. As we cruised we listened to music, including a new favorite. (Link below)

We made it to Faro Blanco around 2:00. Jen called over the radio to get our slip assignment and directions to get into the marina. It’s important to always ask about shallow spots and if there is any special directions to be aware of. Mike did a great job getting the boat docked! We seem to keep getting slips that are kinda difficult to get into and this was was no exception, but Mike did great!!

We went for a walk around the marina, Harley got to go with. He loved getting to explore some grass after being anchored out for the last two nights. We met a super nice couple on a Great Harbor, Sadie Bell. They are in the planning stage of their loop. They have two beautiful Golden Retrievers, Sadie and Puzzle. We learned that every night at 5:00, weather permitting there is docktails at the marina.

When 5:00 rolled around we made some drinks and walked on over. The boaters here at Faro Blanco are so nice! We loved getting to chat with everyone and look forward to getting to know them more.

Mike made dinner, rice with sausage, shrimp, and pineapple… very yummy.
