Day 113: Faro Blanco Resort and Marina (Marathon, FL) 2/20/22

Spent another day in Key West.

We went back to Lucy’s to listen to Dallas sign again… Does this make us groupies? lol

Dallas had us dancing in the street today. He sang the song “Dancing in the Street”, I’ll put a link below since I don’t have video of him because I was too busy dancing to take one. He saw us and recognized us from yesterday and remembered our names, which was really cool 🙂 We will definitely be back to see him when Michael (our 4th crew mate) comes and visits us during his Spring Break.

Afterwards we went to the Half Shell Raw Bar and had oysters. They were just okay, we have had better since being on the loop.

We went to the world famous Kermits to get Key Lime Pie. It’s supposed to be the best in all the Florida. It was very good, but the best Key Lime Pie in Florida according to us is at Dewy Destin’s.

Day 112: Faro Blanco Resort and Marina (Marathon, FL) 2/19/22

Happy Saturday!

Today we drove south and went to Key West.

We went to West Marine first… why did we do this? Because we always go to West Marine. Do we need something from there, probably not. Did we need to go anyway, absolutely!

Then we headed downtown and went to Sloppy Joe’s. Highly recommend! Our waiter Lou, was super friendly and got our drinks and food out fast. He gave a few tips on other places to eat and drink while down in the Keys. We had the Sloppy Joe fries… so so yummy!

Afterwards we went to the Papa’s Pilar Distillery and got to sample some rum. Our bar tender Mo was super funny and perfect. He educated us on the rum and Ernest Hemmingway. Ernest Hemmingway gave himself the nickname ‘Papa’ and if you were friends with Hemmingway, thats what you called him. And if you were friends with Hemmingway, he gave you a nickname as well. Which he gave his 3rd wife the nickname ‘Pilar’. Which in later years is what he named his rum company. We bought a bottle of rum to enjoy back on the boat.

Next stop was Lucy’s Retired Surfers Bar and Grill. We didn’t intend on going there but Dallas caught our eye… or should I say ears. Dallas plays guitar and sings 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s music. He makes a point to learn everyone’s name sitting at the front tables. He loved Jen, as she knew all the words to the songs he was singing. We drank and listened to Dallas sing for 3 hours. He finished off his set by singing “American Pie”, it was perfect. We took a few videos, check below.

After jamming out with Dallas we headed to the southern most point. It is the southern most point in the US, and only 90 miles to Cuba.

We ate dinner at Two Friends Restaurant and Bar. It was very good.

Drove back to the boat and went to the bed. The Wishes crew was very tired after a long day of eating, drinking, and exploring.

Day 111: Faro Blanco Resort and Marina (Marathon, FL) 2/18/22

Jen went to the gym this morning. They were playing really loud elevator music in the gym, even with headphones on you could still hear it.

After the gym Jen called Amy, who drove us to and from the day we went fishing on the Marathon Lady. Amy came and picked Jen and Kelly at the marina and them them to Avis to pick up the rental car. On the way to Avis we learned that Amy does weddings on the beach at sunrise and sunset. She is preforming one tomorrow for a couple from Minnesota.

Getting the rental car took a bit of time but we got it sorted out. Afterwards Jen and Kelly went shopping, including a trip to Publix.

At quitting time the girls headed back to the marina and picked up Mike. The gang went to Paradise Flavors to get ice cream. We got to sample sweet corn ice cream. It was amazing, you’d never know you were eating corn. All the ice cream was made from fruit and vegetables from their market down the street… and made right there in the store. Kelly had Key Lime Pie, Mike had cookies and cream, and Jen had Dulce De Leche. We tried 4 flavors total, only 48 to go! lol

We drove to Islamorada and went to the Bass Pro Shop there. Its super nice, and has two stories. Inside they have Hemmingway’s boat, we were able to walk through it… so cool. Jen got a new pair of fishing shorts, and Mike got a few shorts as well. Afterwards we went to dinner at the Islamorada fish company. Our waiter was very friendly, the view was great, the food was just okay. We had Key Lime Pie… of course. It didn’t even make the top 5 on our list.
